Plates come in all sorts of forms, sizes and designs and no matter how long someone has been tasked with purchasing those objects, in can still drive them insane. In fact, there are so many things to consider when buying plates that it’s much easier for people to just call it a day and ask someone else to do the shopping for them.
If you are like me and have no one to pass the task on to, allow me help you out with the tips I’ve gathered from past experiences. Here are the ABCs of buying plates:
- The first way to make buying plates easier is to understand that you’ll either be spending a lot of money or just a few dollars. The line is drawn between regular plates and the more expensive plates used for fine dining or when you’re entertaining guests with a formal or fancy dinner. Your regular plates are for everyday use such as when you’re having regular meals. These can actually also be used to entertain guests if it’s just a casual get together. Regular plates are the kinds that tend to carry more color and designs while the fancy plates are more neutral in color and are heavier on intricate carving or patterns.
- Take into consideration what you really need in your plates. A fancy set of plates isn’t necessary for serving regular meals so if you don’t think you’ll be entertaining at your home any time soon, its fine to just buy a regular run of the mill set of plates. When you know what kind of plates you need, you can determine how much money you’re willing to spend. Your budget is constructed around how many plates you’ll need and the materials you want your plates to be made out off. Keep in mind that buying your plates in sets will help keep your expenditures down.
- Choose wisely. Think about the other dinnerware that you may also have to buy when you’re choosing your plates. For example, it may be harder to find other pieces that match your plates. However, aesthetically pleasing dinner set ups do include mismatched items so if that’s the look your aiming for then you probably won’t have to think too much on color or pattern. Pay attention to the materials that your plates are made out of though because some are much sturdier than others and can also be easier to clean.
Hopefully these ABCs will help to make your shopping experience easier. Take comfort in the fact that once you’ve started and have successfully made your first shopping trip looking for plates, the rest will fall into place and you’ll soon find yourself to be quite the smart shopper.
