Dining is more than just consuming food, it’s an experience that engages not just the sense of taste, but also of sight, touch and smell (you can even add the sense of hearing if you are able to enjoy a good conversation and music while dining!). With that, you should seriously consider your choices for restaurant flatware and dinnerware so that these complement your food.

A great set of dinnerware and flatware not just gives your tables and restaurant a harmonized look and create the right ambiance. This also serves to make a good impression on your clients and guests.

When choosing your tableware, you should consider the following:

- Coordination with the overall design. What’s your restaurant concept and motif? Your tableware should complement your theme, as well as the overall design. For instance, if your restaurant mainly serves Chinese cuisine, then the patterns and designs of your dinnerware should match this look. Perhaps you can go for dinnerware with red and gold accents. Or, if you have an Italian restaurant, then your dinnerware should be reminiscent of utensils to be found in la cucinaItaliana in Rome.

- Durability. Remember, you don’t plan to use these for just a few times. These should bear up against heavy use and industrial dishwashing. Dishes that are for home use tend to crack and chip with the heavy wear and tear brought about by catering or restaurant use.

- Attractiveness. How good does the dinnerware look? Again, the fact that dining is a multi-sensory experience comes into play when you choose the colors and textures of your dinnerware.

One important thing to remember is that you are in a business. You need to have a balance among design, attractive, durability and cost.

Buying Flatware

When making your flatware selections, you usually have a choice between silverware and stainless steel. Silverware is more delicate and very expensive. As for stainless steel, you can choose between 18/0 and 18/10 flatware. The first number indicates the chromium content (which gives the flatware its stain and rust-resistant properties) while the second number indicates the nickel content (which provides the flatware with its shine). The remaining numbers indicates the percent of composite steel (which provides the strength of the flatware). You should also consider the heaviness of the flatware. Of course, the heavier the silverware, the more resistant it is to bending and breakage.

Another consideration is that although 18/10 flatware is better, it is also considerably more expensive. You should weigh the need for quality with the possibility of loss due to theft or someone in your staff inadvertently losing it or throwing it out.

After considering the quality, your next concern would be the design. Look at the different silverware patterns and choose one that complements the rest of your dinnerware.

Buying Dinnerware

As a general rule, white plates are visually appealing. Choose the ones that are wider as this provides you with better plating design opportunities. You can choose from:

- Vitrified china. This is glass fired at high temperature and makes it strong and resistant to cracking and changes in temperature.

- Polycarbonate. This is a mix of carbon plastics and polyester and is very durable.

- Tempered glass. This is toughened glass that is very resistant to breakage. If it does break, it cracks in very small pieces.

You can also consider getting some melamine dinnerware for not-so-formal settings. Melamine is durable enough to stand up to the rigorous requirements of restaurants and catering services while maintaining its looks as these are stain and scratch resistant. Melamine dinnerware also comes in an amazing variety of colors and textures. You will surely find many designs that perfectly fit your restaurant’s overall concept or motif. Melamine is also very affordable.

Some may think that dinnerware is an inconsequential detail – but in the food business, details are important! Your customers will notice and appreciate your efforts. Lionsdeal offers excellent deals not just on discount flatware but a host of other wholesale kitchen equipment and commercial kitchenware.

When you are in the catering business, one ingredient for success is having the right equipment. This includes kitchen, serving and transporting equipment that allows you to juggle more than your fair share of logistics and organization during a catering job. After all, catering is more than just preparing sumptuous food, it is ensuring that the food does not go dry with time and that your presentation looks attractive and appetizing.

Examples of useful commercial kitchenware and equipment include food warmers, holding cabinets, slow cook ovens, enough dinnerware and flatware for your guests, a flatware caddy, a complete set of chafing dishes and buffetware and much more.

The question is, should you rent or buy your equipment? Let’s discuss the pros and cons, shall we?

Renting equipment: The advantages and disadvantages

ü You have access (albeit) temporary to kitchen equipment, dinnerware and flatware or serving equipment that you otherwise cannot afford. Renting is a more affordable optionwhen you’re just starting out and are hesitant of putting the small capital you have into expensive equipment.

ü Renting allows you to more easily manage your cash flow.

ü Renting also allows you to have access to a wider range of choices when it comes to tableware.

ü Renting allows you to experiment with different kinds of equipment. You get to test which equipment works best for you. If a particular piece is not effective, then you can look for other units.

ü When renting, you are able to get newer, more modern equipment.

û Renting equipment may come out as more expensive in the long term, especially if you are getting more and more catering jobs over time.

û You may not have easy access at all times. There may be times when the equipment you want to rent is unavailable for the scheduled event.

û Renting may mean extra work for you and your staff. In some case it means you have to pick up and deliver the rented equipment every time you need it.

Buying equipment: The advantages and disadvantages

ü If you want to grow your business and are able to win more and more catering jobs, it will be cheaper in the long run to buy the equipment rather than just rent it. You see, aside from the rental fees, catering equipment rental companies may also charge environmental fees.

ü Having the necessary equipment in your list will also work to impress your clients and shows that you are a professional organization.

ü You also get to enjoy more tax advantages with buying the equipment through amortization. To learn more about the tax advantages, we advise you to talk with your accountant regarding how this works.

ü It allows more convenience for you and your staff since the equipment is already in your business location and can be more easily transported to your current catering job.

ü More importantly, owning your catering equipment gives you more control over your business.

ü Nowadays, you also have enjoy savings when buying in bulk as there are a number of online stores that give easy access to wholesale restaurant equipment and discount flatware.

û The main disadvantage of buying your kitchenware and serverware is that it will need a considerable capital outlay on your part.

To rent or to own? That is the question!

Although we have laid out the advantages and disadvantages of the two, the decision to rent or not will depend on you and the status of your business. When deciding, you should ask yourself how frequently you will be using a specific piece of kitchen equipment. If you will need the equipment often enough, then it should justify the cost of buying that equipment.

A good source of your catering equipment needs

Lionsdeal provides you with excellent deals on restaurant supplies, wholesale flatware and even more affordable dinnerware options such as melamine plates.

You have donned your toque and cooked up delectable dishes that will have everyone exclaiming, “My stomach is one happy place!” But as you know, in the catering business, you also need a host of equipment that will not only ensure that your food looks appetizing, but that it is safely transported from your kitchen to the party site and that the overall presentation looks professional.

Really, having the right equipment is essential to having a successful catering business. And wowing your clients not just with your cooking expertise coupled but also with smooth and seamless service, excellent logistical planning and implementation, as well as attractive presentation, will win you even more clients. After all, you are aiming to give your client not just a meal but a dining experience – where the taste, textures, looks and colors work together.

So, here are some of the catering must-haves that should be part of your catering business, aside from the standard kitchen equipment. With the right equipment, you can flawlessly manage various logistical and organizational aspects of your catering job and prove to your clients that you are the right choice:

Dinnerware. It cannot be denied that you will need good dinnerware, especially if you are planning to cater to more formal events. Aside from the dinner plates, you will need salad plates, bread and butter plates, soup bowls and teacup and saucer. You can also consider getting some place setting extras such as charger plates, rim soup bowls and accent plates.

Cabinets for transporting and holding food. When you are catering a large event, you need holding cabinets which you can use to store and heat pre-cooked foods. With holding cabinets, you ensure that the taste stays consistent, vegetables keep their crispness, the meats are moist and the food hot and ready to serve. Holding cabinets provide natural convection heat and humidity that keep your dishes for even prolonged periods (which is handy when the food is en route to the venue).

Chafing dishes. These are standard buffetware made up of large serving dishes with heaters underneath. These come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. When choosing chafing dishes, look for the following qualities – appearance, durability, portability and the ease of controlling the heat. The chafing dishes should also be stable enough so that it won’t be knocked over. It is also advisable to get chafing dishes that have lids that are supported by braces or that have rolling covers. This way, your servers don’t have to worry about where to put a hot lid while they are busy with a long buffet line. You should also invest in good chafing dish accessories, including tongs, food scoops, fuel holders, lighters for the fuel cells and water pans.

Serverware. Make your buffet table look even more delightful or serve your food with style using elegant serving platters, vegetable bowls, gravy boats (with stand), serving trays and pickle/relish dishes. Having these serverware at your buffet table adds an elegant touch and also allows you to provide an attractive array of mini appetizers.

Soup warmer.Soup warmers are usually large electronic tureens that keep the soup warm. These can also be used for chilli, stews and sauces.

Linen and Decor. You may also need to provide additional amenities such as chairs, table, table linen and tabletop accessories such as table card holders and salt & pepper shakers.

Uniforms. The members of your kitchen staff should wear the requisite cook’s jackets, trousers, toques and aprons. This is not just to present a professional image to the clients but also to ensure that the kitchen exercises proper hygiene by limiting hair and skin contact with the food. Your servers should also be in uniform so that diners can identify the wait staff. This avoids embarrassing instances where a guest mistakes another guest for a server.

It is crucial to understand that the right tools will help you integrate your processes from end to end, resulting in an efficient and impressive catering service. It is important that you also have the right supplier for your catering needs. Lionsdeal provides you with the catering and restaurant supplies you need at excellent prices.

Family reunions are great opportunities to bond with the entire clan. It gives the younger generations a chance to know more about the often complicated maze of aunts, uncles, great grandparents, cousins and so on. It also gives the older generations a chance to touch base with other family members they have not seen for a while. All in all, if a reunion is done properly, it will be one grand and memorable occasion.

Here’s a checklist of the things to remember when planning a great family reunion:

Committees: If you are spearheading this event, you don’t have to go at it alone. You can actually assign volunteers into committees that are responsible for different tasks. You can have:

A communications committee, who will handle all communications, invitations and phone calls.

Party and decorations committee, who will think up the theme and concept for the reunion as well as decorate the site, if necessary. They can also be the ones who will assign games and activities that will help ensure that everyone (both young and old) has fun during the gathering.

Finance Committee, who will handle the finances for the reunion. They can set up collections or initiate fund-raising events. It is important that a committee handle the money aspect so that this will not be an issue that can cause bad feelings among family members.

Travel arrangements committee, who will make reservations and other travel arrangements if the event is an out of town affair.

Food committee, who will handle the food preparations or who will coordinate with the caterer. They must ensure that there is enough food and that the necessary flatware, dinnerware and food trays are handily available.

Cleanup committee, who will be in charge of cleaning up after the party.

When assigning committee members, make sure that each committee is led by a responsible adult.

Family and Guest List: Make a list of all the family members to invite. It’s a big no-no to leave anyone out of this big event so be careful to ensure that everyone who should be invited is invited. Send out the invitations well ahead of the event. If this is an out-of-town affair, be sure to give the invitees enough time to make their travel arrangements. After the invitations are issued, go through the list and call each of them – noting down who can come and who cannot make it.

Reunion location and date: Where will you be holding the reunion? At a public park, at someone’s backyard or in a restaurant? Or better yet, will you be holding a grand family reunion in a popular holiday spot? It really depends on the budget and the time allocated for the reunion. Be sure to arrange with the other family members regarding the date of the reunion so that everyone can make themselves available.

Photographs: While everyone is having a good time, it is easy to forget about taking pictures and capturing great moments during the reunion. You can assign some members to record the event and take pictures and videos of everyone having a ton of fun.

Have a budget (and stick to it!): When contributions are collected from family members, it is important to have a budget to ensure that your collections are enough to cover the expenses. Be sure that the finance committee or the treasurer keeps track of the money going in and out. You can also look for areas where you can save, such as buying tickets early, getting supplies in bulk, purchasing wholesale flatware or disposable cutleries and plates.

A Note About Organizing Family Reunion Meals

Food! Getting your family to gather round the tables and enjoy a sumptuous meal is one of the important elements of a successful reunion. After all, eating is one of a reunion’s main “activities”. Feeding a whole clan will be a challenge but it can be done with some advanced planning. If you’re planning a potluck meal, be sure to have a list so that you will have a good distribution of main dishes, appetizer and dessert.

Once you have decided what food to serve (if opting for catering) or who will bring what (for potluck meals), you need to ensure that all the picnic necessities are present. Make a checklist of all that you will need for a great meal. Aside from the basic plates, spoons and fork, you may need the following: chafing dishes, serving items such as food scoops, disposable bowls, soup warmer or a condiment stand.

Lionsdeal.com is an excellent source of all these supplies. Lionsdeal not only offers a wide range of disposable products but also food containers, serving items, cooking utensils and so much more.

Planning a wedding requires a great deal of time and the ability to step back and consider everything that you will need for both the wedding and the reception. Many people hire out these tasks and just take care of the costs but some prefer to keep their costs low, their wedding small, and choose to plan everything themselves. This is often an excellent way to keep both the size of the wedding under control as well as the overall costs of the event.

One of the most important areas to plan correctly is the needs of catering the event. In addition to place settings, flatware, and glassware, when catering you will also need kitchen equipment for preparing, warming, and presenting food. In both cases where you have opted to have meals served or you have chosen to have a buffet style reception, you will still need the same equipment.

Chafers: These units vary in size from 4-qt to 8-qt and typically are heated with a small liquid fuel canister. Chafers are primarily used to keep prepared food warm while serving or buffet.

Steam Table Pans: Generally used with a large steam table but there are many sizes that will fit with the above chafers allowing you to have small steam table available for use.

Tiered Buffet Displays: An excellent way to display desserts at a buffet style reception. You could also use the tiered display to present hors d’oeuvres during the period before the main entrée.

Serving Utensils: All of the equipment and planning will not help your even if you do not have serving utensils! Usually serving utensils encompasses serving spoons, two-tine meat forks, bread/ cake knives and other various utensils.

Pouring Utensils: Includes pitchers, decanters, coffee carafes, teapots, milk dispensers and insulated carafes as well. Making sure you have enough for your wait staff will keep everything moving quickly and no one will be caught waiting for a water pitcher or teapot. A good rule of thumb is one of each for each table of guests, minimum.

Lionsdeal.com provides catering and banquet needs to both commercial and residential customers.

While planning a wedding a great deal of subtle things must be taken into account. Since a wedding is more than just a ceremony and an entire visual package it is important that each piece plays its role and plays it well. From the importance of various colors, floral arrangements, the significance of various colors (for more traditional weddings) and even the place settings need to be chosen carefully. During the planning phase of any wedding you will be faced with a great deal of choices concerning place settings. You have choices for color, designs, rim width, plain or patterned and even what the plate is made of but, where do you even begin with choosing the right plate for your wedding?

There are several different aspects of plates that should be kept in mind when making a selection, Color, plate design, and decoration. Over the next few paragraph each aspect will be discussed so you know what to look for when you are planning your place settings.

Color: If you have a thematic wedding planned and your plates are integral then they ought to match the entire theme. If however you are using traditional white plates, keep in mind that not all whites are equal. There is American white and Bright white china and the significant difference is that American white is more of an off white/cream/egg shell color as opposed to Bright white china, which just as its name implies it is crisp, bright white.

Plate Design: In this case we are not talking about a visual pattern on the plate itself but how the plate is constructed. Typically plates come either as a wide edge or narrow rim, the main significance of this is that it determines how much food can be place on the plate. A wide edge plate has typically a wide rim around the outside of the plate; generally this leaves less room for food but is more common of a design. You may want to consider a wide edge plate if you have serving a meal which is being presented as opposed to buffet style, this way the chef’s design for the meal is preserved and displayed. A narrow rim plate only has the benefit of being able to hold more food; there is little visual room to present a meal.

Decoration: This is the section concerning the actual pattern on a plate and typically when talking about American white or Bright white China, decoration refers to whether or not there is scalloping or any type of banding around the outside of the wide edge and then again at the edge of the rim before it transitions down into the area where the meal is to be placed.

Probably the most significant reason to use an American white or Bright white China plate in a wedding is to keep the reception place settings from competing with the décor or the bridal party. If you are planning your own wedding, choosing to purchase a generic dinnerware will allow you to use it with any other situation such as luncheons, dinners, and holidays.

Lionsdeal provides a wide range of supplies for a variety of catering supplies. Flatware, glassware, platters & serving dishes, and dinnerware are available. Keeping with the topic of this article, Lionsdeal has a wonderful selection of plates with a variety of materials such as china, glass and melamine. A variety of dinnerware is available in both bright white and American white with both the wide edge and narrow rim. For more information about what Lionsdeal is able to provide for your wedding please visit us online.

When planning your own wedding and reception it is important to keep in mind the quality of your place settings. Labeling can be deceptive to people who aren’t “in the know” about such things. An excellent example of this is the difference between bright white china and American white. Bright white is exactly as it sounds, bright clean and white, while American white tends more towards an off white cream colored plate. Since it is rare that your guests will be handling their plates, you can take some liberties with what they are made out of. You may choose to use a heavy melamine plate versus a traditional ceramic plate. The area where you have to be mindful of is flatware.

Flatware covers all of the utensils that your guests will be using, from their soup spoon to the dessert fork. Flatware is sold in three different weights and quality. Each weight has its pros and cons as does the quality, each of which helps to inform the price point for your flatware.

Medium Weight: excellent for one time use and is very affordable. However anything more than a single use the flatware will show its wear quickly as it is made of a thinner, softer metal the Medium Weight flatware tends to bend easily and also feels light and cheap.

Heavy Weight: while costing more than heavy weight it will feel better in the hand not feel like cheap flatware. Additionally it will stand up to repeated use much easier.

Extra-Heavy Weight: of the three weights, extra-heavy weight costs the most, lasts the longest and is well worth the money as it will feel and look like high quality flatware.

In addition to weight of the flatware, quality of the metal also needs to be taken into account. Flatware generally has a number stamped into it; this number represents the ratio of nickel to chromium that is in the flatware. The higher the nickel ratio the more resistant to corrosion the flatware will have. Below is a quick break down of the most common ratios

18/0 means that there is no nickel in the flatware and it will be more likely to corrode.

18/8 & 18/10 have very little in difference between them. Flatware with these designations will hold their luster for many years.

Bearing this explanation of how to choose the best flatware for your reception the next decision is where to purchase your flatware from. You may have a store locally to you but generally specialty catering stores deal with businesses versus average customers, also keep in mind that these shops tend to charge at a premium for their products. Your other option is to select a site from the wide variety online, making sure to do your research to make sure you are working with a reputable company.

Lionsdeal.com has worked very hard to fill the gap in customer service that is common among restaurant/catering supply companies. With an extremely wide variety of products to choose from you will be able to purchase everything from serving platters, chamfers, steam pans & accessories, and plates, dessert dishes, glassware and of course flatware in several qualities and styles. Another aspect of Lionsdeal.com that to keep in mind is their option to request a quote, this allows you to paste in your entire list of what you need, how many and they can give you a quote for your order and potentially suggest elements you may have overlooked!

Today many people choose to have smaller weddings and many times choosing to have a simple wedding in their home with only a close number of people. There are a variety of articles online about how to go about planning and setting up your home wedding. What there is however is a lack of articles that focus on the needs of catering such an event yourself. Some people choose to have a small event catered by someone else, others may choose to have a covered dish reception and still others choose to plan and cater the reception themselves, this article is for everyone but especially focused on the last group, those who are going to plan and cater their own reception.

Depending on how simple or how complicated you are intending on making your reception will determine what types and how many of dinnerware, serving ware, glassware and flatware is needed. In addition to the place settings will you need cake stands, serving trays, or wine buckets? An aspect that is often overlooked is the wine bucket. Generally there are two sizes of buckets available, 4 & 8 quart, 1 bottle of wine or 2 bottles respectively. Along with the previous, it should also be kept in mind that the number and type of plates and flatware needed will be determined by two things, the number of guests and how many courses/offerings you have planned for the reception. Generally at very least you should have a plate for salad, entrée and dessert. Glassware should consist of a water/wine goblet and a champagne flute and finally the flatware needs to be consistent with the courses being served. An example would be if you are service oysters then you need to include forks with the flatware.

When choosing to cater your own reception the budget is often even more in the forefront than when you are hiring to have it catered for you. With this in mind it should be pointed out that much of what you will need to purchase for your reception is available online through various outlets. The real gem is the single website that is able to provide your place setting needs as well as your preparation and serving needs.

Lionsdeal.com was founded with the intention to fill the lack of customer service within the commercial industry for restaurant and supply companies. Lionsdeal.com is able to supply all of your plate needs such as American white wide edge plates, bright white plates. With planning your reception another aspect needing attention will be flatware, Lionsdeal.com has a wide variety of styles and price ranges for you to choose from. Place settings are not the only catering equipment that you will need to purchase; there are several different common pieces of catering equipment.

Platters & Serving Dishes

Chafing Dishes

Serving Utensils

Whether you’re hosting a formal dinner or you own a restaurant it’s important to set a table correctly. For many meals at home people just set the table however they see fit. This is perfectly fine, but when it comes to formal meals it’s important to set a table properly. Setting a table correctly often requires more items than normal. No matter how many items you put on the table you’ll be able to find all of them at Lionsdeal. Here are a few of the important pieces.

Main Entrée Plates

The main plates are an important part of setting a table. They act as a foundation for all the items that will be put on the table. You can choose from a range of designs at Lionsdeal. China, melamine, glass, and wooden plates are all available. A popular choice is tuxton china.

Flatware

You can choose from a range of discount flatware through Lionsdeal. The flatware you choose is actually very important. Some people consider flatware as an afterthought, but it can add or subtract from a formal meal. There are usually two forks, two spoons, and a knife for each table setting. Your guests will certainly notice what style of flatware you use. Many different styles are available to fit any type of meal.

Salad Plates

Even if you aren’t serving salad at your meal it’s a good idea to use salad plates. They are great for bread and other foods that your guests may want to keep separate from their entrée. Any entrée plates that you choose have matching salad plates that you can use.

Glassware

The type of glassware you put on the table depends on what you’re serving. However, every meal should have a water goblet as part of each setting. Other glasses may be placed next to the goblet. Many meals will include a wine glass or a champagne glass. It really all depends on what drink is served.

Decoration

Any meal can benefit from some sort of decoration on the table. It doesn’t have to be something big. It can be something simple that’s placed in the center of the table. A decoration adds an elegant touch to a meal. Putting a candle in the center is a great option. If you’re unsure about putting an open flame close to your guests, you can also get a flameless candle. It gives the same effect without any possibility of a risk.

Other items can also be included in a table setting. These are just a few of the basic items that are used for a standard table setting. If you’re also looking for items that will help you prepare the meal you can find them at Lionsdeal. They carry commercial kitchenware, bake ware, cooking utensils, and much more. You can even find disposable products and office supplies.

Running a kitchen is no easy task, whether it’s at a restaurant or in your own home. It’s important to have a wide range of kitchen items to meet all your cooking and baking needs. This is why Lionsdeal offers so many options when it comes to commercial kitchenware, baking items, and cooking items. Here are just a few that may come in handy.

Dutch Ovens

It’s a great idea to have a Dutch oven in the kitchen. This piece can be used for so many different dishes. You can make casseroles, stews, and more in it. It’s so effective because it’s able to distribute heat evenly to ensure everything in the oven is cooked well. Having a Dutch oven eliminates the need for quite a few other dishes.

Saute Pots

Having a sauté pot makes cooking so much simpler. It makes sautéing or making a stir fry easier. You won’t have to deal with the hassle of other pots that are clumsy. Most of the pots are made of stainless steel, copper, or aluminum.

Strainers

This is an essential item for any kitchen. So many dishes require a strainer. If you make anything with noodles you’ll probably need a strainer. Lionsdeal has a wide range of strainers. Most of them are metallic and look like a pot because they have one handle. The strainers that have two handles and look more like a bowl are also available.

Cookware Sets

Another option for cookware is to get a cookware set. You can choose from a couple sets. Both are made of stainless steel and feature seven pieces. The pieces are all practical things that every kitchen needs.

Cake Pans

At least one dessert is made in every kitchen. Having a cake pan is great because it can be used for several desserts. Certain delicate desserts can be made in a cake pan. Many desserts can be made in a variety of pans.

Pie Pans

Pies are another classic dessert that is made at least once a year. Catering businesses may be asked to provide dessert, so having pie pans is a great idea. You’ll be prepared to provide dessert for your family or a large number of guests at an event.

Once you have all your kitchenware, bake ware, and cookware you can look through the other great items that Lionsdeal offers. Restaurant dinnerware, flatware, disposable products, office supplies, and more are available. You’ll always be able to find what you’re looking for at Lionsdeal.
